North Forr Case Study
Project Title
North Forr Landfill Restoration
Site
North Forr is a former landfill site covering an area of just over 4 ha.
Restoration
Poor drainage and management at the site resulted in it being unsuitable for the establishment and sustained growth of productive grass cover. The aim of the restoration work to get the land to a condition suitable for grazing livestock.
GPS and nutrient and pH mapping was used to determine a suitable fertiliser application, and conductivity mapping was carried out to give information about the drainage requirements on site and to determine the depth of the landfill capping layer. After the investigative stages were complete surface drainage
was installed using the data provided by the conductivity mapping. This allowed
us to avoid penetrating the old landfill. By the spring of the following year a solid sole of grass was
well established.
